So many events to tell you about this month!
- Black Cat Books has reopened (yay!), and will host a reading / book signing by Abiquiu poet Oro Lyn Benson on March 2 at 11am
- Later that day, a series of events celebrating the Gila Wilderness Centennial (1924-2024) kicks off with a screening of “Green Fire – Aldo Leopold and the Land Ethic for Our Time” at the Hillsboro Community Center
- The Black Cat Poets read their work at Ingo’s Art Cafe on Sunday March 3, 1pm
- SCAC’s Art Talks will feature painter Stacy Blum-Hay talking about her work at Rio Bravo Fine Art — that’s also at 1pm on March 3
- March 3 at 3, Gila Centennial events continue with “Apache Treaties: Land, Power and Race in the Gila Wilderness” at the HCC, presented by UTEP professor Jeffrey P. Shepherd
- Author Teresa Janssen will talk about her new novel, The Ways of Water, a thrilling tale of pioneer life in our very own Sierra County, at Ingo’s Art Cafe on March 4 at noon
- Wet your whistle then warble your tunes at 1st & 3rd Monday Karaoke at the Brewery — in March it’s on the 4th and the 18th
- You’ll have two (2) opportunities to learn about the history of the three (3) CCC projects that resulted in the Damsite’s cabins, rock walls, pergola, and more – get to the Dam Site Historic District on Wednesday March 6 at 10m or Saturday March 9 at 2pm for Life in our CCC Camps
- Students of the NMSU Gila Fim School will screen 3 short films — “Legacies of the Gila,” “Stewardship of the Gila,” and “Tales of the Gila Trout” on March 8 starting at 4pm at HCC
- Sierra County Farmers Market happens on Saturday the 9th and repeats the 23rd at Ralph Edwards Park in Truth or Consequences
- Geronimo Springs Museum’s annual fundraising event is on March 9 starting at 4pm at the Moose lodge – it includes dinner at 5 followed by a 6pm screening of “Coronado: The New Evidence” about Dr. Deni Seymour’s archaeological work on Coronado’s route
- T or C’s Monthly Art Hop is March 9 – stop in to Rio Bravo Gallery to see a show by Nolan Winkler and Raul Dorn, or check out the newest gallery in town, T or C Contemporary — we are only scratching the surface here, so be sure and visit the MainStreet TorC website for lots more Art Hop info
- T or C Story Lab at the El Cortez Theater is at ONE PM (emphasis because we goofed last month) on March 10 – it’s the last Story Lab of the season, so don’t miss it!
- Starting at 4pm on March 10, “I Am Hologram” will entertain at T or C Brewing
- A living history Chautauqua performance by naturalist Steve Morgan showcases “Aldo Leopold and the Gila Wilderness” at 4pm on March 16 at the HCC
- The Consequences, TorC’s small-town band with a big-town sound, will play an outdoor show at Healing Waters Plaza on March 16 at 5 — sponsored by SCAC
- The 2nd Truth or Consequences Rock & Gem Show is on Saturday & Sunday March 23-24 — last year was HUGE and 2024 is expected to be as big or bigger!

- Another SCAC Art Talk, this time featuring photographer / DJ / Fuzzy Logic owner Andrew Williams, is at 1pm on March 23 at Rio Bravo Gallery
- T or C Fiesta is throwing a fundraising bash / Cash Party Saturday March 30th at the T or C Civic — the Yarbrough Band will get the two-steppin’ started at 6, and one lucky ticket-holder will win a $10k prize
- The same night, but at 7, pop/rock duo Sirsy will play at the Brewery
- Sunday March 31st at 10am, Caballo Lake State Park will host their 27th Annual Easter Egg Hunt for kids age 1-11
- Wrapping up the month, Sunday the 31st is T or C Brewing’s monthly Open Mic night, hosted by The Consequences! Signups start at 3:30, performances start at 4pm.
