We’re Number One!
Filmmaker / artist / actor / writer John Waters placed Eddingon at the top of his esteemed “Top Ten Movies” list for 2025.
Here’s a cool story from photographer Gregory Crewdson, posted on his substack, talking about the planning and shooting of the still image he made on the set of Eddington at Ari Aster’s request. Prints are available on the A24 website.

To celebrate the film’s opening Truth or Consequences Brewing Co. has released two new beers: Eddington Red and Joe Cross Lager.

Hey there’s a trailer! And a release date of July 18, 2025.
There’s currently a lot of buzz in downtown Truth or Consequences thanks to producer / writer / director Ari Aster — the guy behind “Hereditary,” “Midsommar,” and “Beau Is Afraid” — bringing his latest movie production to town.
“Eddington” is described as a “film noir ensemble western dark comedy” and features a jaw-dropping cast of Oscar / Golden Globe / BAFTA winners and nominees, as well as two members of the SNL Five-Timers Club. Cast members (early in production) include Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, Luke Grimes, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., and old-school nepobaby Candice Bergen (we kid, but if you don’t know, look it up).

Phoenix stars as Joe Cross, a small-town sheriff in pandemic-era New Mexico.
The plot was rumored (at first) to be about a couple running out of gas near the fictional town of Eddington, where a warm welcome by day turns into something else entirely after nightfall. That was a bum steer however, as we later learned that Eddington is mostly about a data center being built outside a small town in New Mexico, a detail that cedes the spotlight to what’s happening in town: “a standoff between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor.”
A lot of filming occurred in the 200 and 300 blocks of Broadway, with the former BBQ on Broadway location fully decked out as the Sevilla County Sheriff’s office.
Other buildings that have undergone transformations: TorC’s (2025-08 update – recently closed >) Giddy Up Cafe, once a favorite among locals and visitors for its fresh food and patio seating, is Paula’s Cafe in Eddington, with Mexican and Greek food served daily. Galactic Digs is in temporary Vacuum Sales & Service mode. And the empty building at the corner of Jones and McAdoo, formerly El Rio Video, cafe BellaLuca and Old Brick Cafe, has turned into “GUNTHERS,” a fictional vendor of guns, knives, and ammo. (2025-08 update, Gunther’s has opened as Jones Street Secondhand.)

Location scouts and other crew members have been a friendly presence in town, holding a casting call for extras, communicating with business owners regarding street closures and borrowed buildings, hanging out at T or C Brewing, and even hosting a social hour there.
