Stargazing / Night Sky Viewing

“Out of This World” Night Skies

Thanks to New Mexico’s efforts to minimize light pollution, the whole state offers great views of the night skies, and Sierra County’s sparse population (just 3 people per square mile) maximizes the advantage!

Wide open spaces are everywhere you look, and allow superb viewing of stars and constellations, and space-related events – such as the International Space Station passing by.

And where else can one easily enjoy seemingly unending views of the heavens while immersed in water? Nothing quite compares to the experience of witnessing a meteor shower while floating in the middle of a lake or an outdoor hot spring.

If you’re interested in getting a closer / further look into the skies, and in learning from an expert, consider contacting professional Astronomer Larry Fisher, who arranges Star Parties. Larry, former Astronomy Professor in the Physics department at University of Texas El Paso, is the manufacturer of the “ScopeBuggy,” a 3-wheel cart made to move heavy telescopes with ease.

Larry has three telescopes available on-site in Elephant Butte, but he is willing to travel elsewhere and bring telescopes that are suitable for the location. Call him on 915-443-9010, or email lfish2020@hotmail.com to arrange a Star Party.
