Join Southwest Expeditions for a celestial evening featuring kayaks cruising on beautiful Caballo Lake, and an enchantingly fun Native American night sky interpretation.
This sunset experience is the event to treat a friend or date to — don’t miss your chance!
Everyone will meet at the main ramp at Caballo Lake Stat Park. Participants will be fitted with life jackets, rented watercraft, and paddles. After red and green glow sticks are affixed to watercraft for navigation purposes and guests are given blue glow sticks to wear, a guide will lead everyone onto the lake for an hour of group paddling along the shore and back.
Following the sunset paddle trip, guests will return to base camp where they’ll indulge in “Vino & Cibo” (wine and hors d’oeuvres) next to a cozy beach fire pit. While everyone relaxes in camp chairs enjoying dessert and watching the fire’s embers dance in the silky night sky, a Navajo Native Interpretive guide will talk about Native Archeoastronomy — that is, the old stories of the night sky as seen through the eyes of the ancient Native people.
Soft drinks, bottled water, Gatorade and hot coffee will be available.
When reserving, choose from single person kayak, tandem-2 person kayak, or a 2-person canoe (subject to availability, reserve early for the biggest selection). All boats are hard shell.
What if I want to bring my own boat?
To join the tour with your own boat, select “customer boat / own boat” when reserving. A maximum of 12 people will be allowed to reserve with their own boats.
Boat owners are responsible for their own transportation, paddles and life jackets (required), but Southwest Expeditions will provide glow sticks. Boat owners will also be required to load / unload their own watercraft, but otherwise are required to stay with the group and follow all instructions from Southwest Expedition guides.
