Learn how to dance tango socially — through body awareness and human connection — to create a style that is uniquely you! Social Argentine tango developed in the late 1800s in Buenos Aires. Unlike performance tango, which emphasizes prowess of steps, social tango prioritizes connection. Anyone can do it!
Two back-to-back classes will teach the basics. Opt to take one ($15) or both classes ($25).
- Class 1 — 11am-12pm
- Class 2 — 12:30-1pm
Albuquerque-based tango instructor Graham Stanford runs Puerta al Tango full-time. His approach to the dance emphasizes emotion, and fluidity over memorized steps. Some of his tango students will be in town for a soaking / tango retreat and will be present at the classes, potentially as dance partners.
In the evening, Graham and his students will host a milonga dance party, providing another opportunity to learn and either watch or join in (donation).
