At the corner of Daniels & Charles, Truth or Consequences:
Bring on the sunblock! The Truth or Consequences City Pool‘s cover was removed mid-May and “topless” swimming is available now. (Just a corny joke, folks, please bring both pieces of the bikini.)
The pool offers a full slate of wonderful recreational activities including swim team, lap swim, water aerobics, and open swims. see the schedule
New to the pool’s exterior are canvas panels painted by local artists. Below, a photo of one made by the Hot Springs High School art class that’s dedicated to long-time local Ted Marshall. The panels are going up in batches of 5, and in time will be displayed on every stretch of the fence around the pool.
On South Broadway:
A BMX bike track has been built next to the Louis Armijo Sports Complex at 2800 South Broadway in Truth or Consequences.
“BMX” stands for bicycle motocross. According to Wikipedia, “BMX began in the early 1970s when children began racing their bicycles on dirt tracks in southern California, inspired by the motocross stars of the time. The size and availability of the Schwinn Sting-Ray and other wheelie bikes made them the natural bike of choice for these races, since they were easily customized for better handling and performance.”
Over the years, BMX branched into different styles including freestyle (tricks done in skate parks or on flat land) to dirt jump (high flying).
The track in T or C includes challenging hills and turns, but is suitable for both racing and stunt riding. Parents can sit on a nearby bench and watch the action, possibly with their hands covering their eyes.
As with most sports, protective gear for riders is always strongly encouraged.
Looks like a lot of fun available if you are up for it! T or C, aka Hot Springs, is an interesting destination. I look forward to my upcoming visit to TorC! I especially look forward to seeing the new Space Port America!
Thanks for the comment! What time of year are you visiting?
